10 days from Vienna to Munich
St. Peter's Churchyard and Mozart's birthplace. Vienna's churches & Munich's Glockenspiel. Brown paper packages tied up with strings. These are a few of my favorite things.' While these aren't the exact lyrics from the popular song from The Sound of Music, they are a few of our favorite things. And on this 10-day vacation, we'll show them to you (except brown paper packages tied up with string) on the sightseeing tours we've arranged for you in Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck, and Munich. Plus, we've arranged your hotel reservations in each city, daily breakfast, sightseeing, transportation between cities, and transfers from/to your hotels to/from the train stations. To help you feel comfortable and at home, we've also arranged for you to have the services of a Local Host, someone who is there for you to answer questions, offer suggestions, and help you personalize your vacation in each city.

Your vacation begins in Vienna, Austria. Your Local Host will greet you with a warm welcome, help you get settled, and present you with materials to familiarize you with the city. The next day, after included breakfast, we'll pick you up at your hotel for guided sightseeing with a local expert. You'll hear the inside stories around such famous landmarks as the State Opera House and Hofburg Palace. Your sightseeing features Schonbrunn Palace, former summer residence of the Habsburg Dynasty. In Salzburg, your sightseeing includes Mirabell Gardens and St. Peter's Churchyard, one of the oldest cemeteries in the world and made famous as the place where the Van Trapp family hid after escaping the Nazis in The Sound of Music. We'll also take you to Mozart's birthplace, where he was born in 1756 and that now houses exhibits such as his childhood violin. In Innsbruck, sightseeing with a local expert includes a walk through the quaint medieval lanes to the Golden Roof, a 3-story balcony built as a royal box where Emperor Maximilian sat in luxury and enjoyed tournaments in the square below. We've also included a visit to the Tyrolean Folk Art Museum.

In each of these Austrian cities, you'll have a day to explore on your own (with the support of your Local Host, of course). You may want to visit one of the many art and history museums in Vienna, visit the Prater amusement park and ride the giant Ferris wheel, or explore the Naschmarkt, a local fruit and vegetable market with more than a hundred stalls. In Salzburg, perhaps visit Hohensalzburg Fortress, built in 1077 on a hill above the city, or take a tour visiting some of the scenes from The Sound of Music. In Innsbruck, you may want to enjoy a Tyrolean folklore show, shop at one of the many local stores, or just sit back and relax at a local cafe.

Then, it's off to Germany. In Munich, your sightseeing with an expert Local Guide includes BMW World as well as the park at Nymphenburg Palace, the summer residence of former Bavarian royalty. We'll also take you to Marienplatz, where you'll see the famous Glockenspiel, which re-creates a royal wedding from the 16th century. You'll have a full day in Munich to explore on your own. Perhaps visit the Residenz Museum, former Wittelsbach residence and now one of Europe's finest palace museums; take an excursion to Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Castles; or enjoy a Bavarian beer at a local biergarten or at the famous Hofbrauhaus.

And don't forget?your vacation package includes first-class travel via train between the cities. We've even included transfers from/to your hotels to/from the train stations. With the transfers and transportation we've included, the hotels we've booked, and the guides and sightseeing we've arranged, you just have to sit back, relax, and enjoy. Add the comfort of knowing you'll have a Local Host in each city to assist you (not to mention at the train stations), and you've got a vacation that will be so fun, it will be difficult to say, 'Auf Wiedersehen.'
